Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce Aug 23rd 2013, 20:48 This recipe is by Leela. She says Clear jel maybe used instead of the cornstarch when making larger batches. I use Clear jel when I make salsa and pie filling for canning. Clear Jell is well worth the effort, it leaves a cleaner and thicker filling that is simply delicious. Kitchencraft (1-800-776-0575) in Waterville, IA sells it in the 1# or 5# bag. | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 9:48:44 PM | | Dawson City Sourdough Starter and Sourdough Bread Aug 23rd 2013, 18:30 Straight out of the Klondike, this recipe has been around for a long time. This process takes all day, but the smells that will fill your house while the bread is rising and baking will make it all worthwhile. You'll probably find that at suppertime you'll sit yourself down with a loaf of hot, fresh bread and a pound of butter and wonder how you ever got by without sourdough bread! The Dawson City Historical Complex commemorates the history of the Klondike, including the Gold Rush and the years that followed. Sourdough was an integral part of the harsh life of a miner during the Gold Rush. Sourdough starter was always available, either by borrowing some from a fellow miner or by starting one's own. Food was scarce in the Yukon and winters were long and lonely, so having some sourdough starter and a large bag of flour could greatly increase a miner's quality of life. Up in the Klondike today there are people who still share sourdough starter which originally came over the Chilkoot Trail. It's a great living tradition to keep alive, so share and share alike – pioneer style! Time does not include making the starter but does include rising time for the dough. | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 7:30:34 PM | | Yukon Caribou Roast With Gravy Aug 23rd 2013, 17:47 Found on the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation website. Thought I'd save it as you just never know when you might have a chunk of caribou to deal with. | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 6:47:36 PM | | Baked Brunch Frittata Aug 23rd 2013, 16:56 From www.taste.com.au | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 5:56:24 PM | | Vanilla Oatmeal No-Bake Cookies Aug 23rd 2013, 16:12 Recipe I found on Pinterest but was difficult to actually GET to the recipe quickly. Steak is such a crowd pleaser and with the souped-up version topped with a tasty walnut crust, it's a holiday winner…" –Alex Guarnaschelli | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 3:38:23 PM | | Walnut and Blue Cheese "Wedge" Aug 23rd 2013, 14:32 "I love serving a classic for a holiday and the varied colors and textures on here give it an American holiday feel to me…. I love the addition of the cranberries and the tangy blue cheese, but for me the star of this salad is the glazed walnuts. Best of all, make the dressing and cut the salad ahead of time. When ready to serve, just assemble and enjoy." –Alex Guarnaschelli | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 3:32:55 PM | | Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes With Pecans Aug 23rd 2013, 14:23 "This is a great holiday side dish because the potatoes can be microwaved in just 15 minutes. Sweet potatoes are at their best when combined with something sweet. The thought was to take the flavors reminiscent of a cinnamon-infused pecan coffee cake topping and pair them with sweet potatoes for a change from the more traditional marshmallow topped casserole." –Alex Guarnaschelli | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 3:23:50 PM | | Stuffed White Mushrooms With Pecans Aug 23rd 2013, 14:06 "I really love this type of dish because it can be an appetizer or side dish depending on how you serve it. The pecans are a rich and welcome guest at this party, because the white mushrooms are light and slightly tangy from the Vermouth and sour cream. The pecans also add great texture." — Alex Guarnaschelli | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 3:06:51 PM | | Strawberry Crostata With Walnuts Aug 23rd 2013, 13:35 "I love the idea of wrapping fruit in dough and baking it, allowing the fruit to get jammy. The addition of the walnuts is rich and evokes the tartness of the strawberries. I like to serve this warm with whipped cream or ice cream, but it's also great just as is." — Alex Guarnaschelli | Rating: 0 Created: Aug 23, 2013 2:35:07 PM | | |
